Founded in 2008, Fitness First quickly became a familiar name in Maryland’s fitness community. Led by Peter Harvey, the company’s President and CEO, its first gym opened in Silver Spring and later expanded to places like Bethesda and Frederick. Its mission was to create a place where people could train with confidence. Fitness First facilities featured cutting-edge equipment. Each gym included cardio machines, strength training tools, ropes, and a variety of weights. Members could follow self-guided routines or take advantage of structured group training. Group sessions, whether Yoga or Zumba, were designed to be intimate so trainers could focus on each participant. Personal Training gave members a deeper level of support, with plans tailored after an initial consultation with a fitness expert. Each Personal Training session focused on individual goals and allowed members to track their progress closely with the guidance of a certified coach. Following its acquisition by Gold’s Gym in 2013, many locations were rebranded or shut down. As a result, managing or canceling existing memberships has become less straightforward. Follow these steps:

1. Get a letter together and request cancellation within it. Provide all of your account info as listed. Sign and date the letter and Keep a copy for your records.
2. You’ll need to use certified mail and send it to the address provided to you by the gym
3. Contact them by calling the phone number for the gym you signed up at or attended most frequently after your letter is received to ensure your account is cancelled
4. Request that the agent emails you confirmation or gives you a verbal confirmation code
5. As usual, just in case, keep the proof that you’ve cancelled handy.
